Door Locks - Prevent Unauthorized Entry
Throughout the history of man, homeowners have always worried about keeping their homes and personal property as safe as possible. This meant creating security locks that can bar intruders from gaining entry. One development in the creation of secure entry locks was to provide individual keys for each lock – but even this presented two crucial problems.

The Deadbolt
One of the most popular and widespread type of lock on the market is the deadbolt lock ; the reason for such popularity is that the deadbolt is a sure thing. You can be sure that this mechanism will work. The way it works is quite simple, one component (the door) that is hinged is connected to an immovable object (the wall) using a strong shaft that connects the two together.

The mere mention of a door lock may conjure up visions of heavy metal doors with large locks that will keep all the bad things out. This is exactly what they were meant to accomplish, there main goal is to keep bad things out will allowing you to let only the good in. Now we have reached a moment in this technology filled age where people are using keyless entry locks, started with technology called the cylinder lock.

Deadbolts - How to install a deadbolt lock
A deadbolt is a special kind of lock. These locks are far more secure than the old locks with keys. This is because the weight of these locks is more than a normal one and it takes time for the burglars to break in.

Deadbolt - General overview
The deadbolt is the most widespread style of bolt lock for a very good reason: it works. The principle is simple enough. With one hinged component ? the door ? and one immovable one ? the framing wall ? the best way to keep them together is to connect them with a strong shaft that penetrates from one into the center of the other.

Padlocks - A deeper look into padlocks
I remember my first padlock. It was a Master combination lock for my gym locker in seventh grade. The dial was blue, and if I?m mot mistaken, the combination was 13-24-4. Three turns clockwise, two counterclockwise, and clockwise to the final number.

Magnetic Locks - Introduction to magnetic locks
Magnetic locks, like electric strikes, use electromagnetism to control the locking mechanism. They rely on electric power, whether from a building current or a battery, and as a result they?re as dependable as a refrigerator, TV, or bedside alarm clock (though like any other household appliance they can also be vulnerable to power failure).

Door Locks - Latest Innovations
Homeowners have always been concerned about the security of their homes and possessions and have continued to improve locks in an effort to prevent unauthorized entry. Utilization of entry door locks with various types of keys enhanced security, but still left two problems to deal with. First was the problem of keyed locks being easy to get past the security feature.

Lock Bumping - Definition and Prevention
Lock bumping is a technique for easily opening most pin and tumbler type locks in under one minute given the pre-filed blank keys called bump keys and a tool to apply quick pressure such as a plastic mallet. This procedure makes lock picking absurdly easy, and takes only a few minutes training to apply the technique. You don?t even need to understand how it works, just that it does.

Security Locks - Introduction to the field
Our doors serve as entrances to our homes and offices. They may also provide access to strangers, criminals and offenders. So how do we secure our doors and prevent intrusions by these people? This is the sole of purpose of door locks. They keep us and our properties safe and protected.

Security locks - General view
There are certain basic home security aspects that must be addressed before you proceed to the installation of advanced security systems. The first things that you must pay attention to are the doors to your home. Doors must always be strong to provide protection and they must be impossible to open in any way that is harmful to you. Doors must also be made from hard to break materials and if required reinforced with an internal cover plate.

Philosophical take on the locks and keys field
Each of us has different security needs. I recently looked around our house, and I wasn?t too surprised by the number of locks I found. With five outside doors, not counting the garage door, we use two keys for three types of locks (all but one are keyed the same).

A short history of Locks
Mechanical locks work according to two fundamental principles: incorporating fixed obstructions to keep the wrong keys out, or using movable pins or tumblers that have to be put in the right positions by the key to move the bolt.
