Door Locks - Prevent Unauthorized Entry
10/07/2008
Throughout the history of man, homeowners have always worried about keeping their homes and personal property as safe as possible. This meant creating locks that can bar intruders from gaining entry. One development in the creation of secure entry locks was to provide individual keys for each lock – but even this presented two crucial problems.
One was that the security component of keyed locks was quite easy to outmaneuver because you can always copy keys easily, while locks can always be picked open. The second vital problem results when keys are lost or fall into the wrong hands.

The Deadbolt
09/30/2008
One of the most popular and widespread type of lock on the market is the deadbolt; the reason for such popularity is that the deadbolt is a sure thing. You can be sure that this mechanism will work. The way it works is quite simple, one component (the door) that is hinged is connected to an immovable object (the wall) using a strong shaft that connects the two together.

There are two very important aspect of the shaft, one is the length that allows it to penetrate into the immovable frame, and the other is the strength, which makes it less possible to cut through or break into.

An understanding of physics will give you an idea of the value of the deadbolts long shaft. It is important to have the necessary pressure to push this shaft through the immovable frame that increases in proportion of its depth embedded in the frame. If you are not into physics that important thing to know is that, if your shaft pushes one inch or more past the strike plate then it would take that much more pressure to break through the door.

Lock Bumping – Stay aware of what lock bumping is all about
09/01/2008
Lock bumping is the new method used to get to open majority of the pin-and-tumbler locks used nowadays without using a legitimate key. Within one minute, a lock bumping expert can gain entry with the use of the bump keys (blank keys that have been filed to shape beforehand) and a tool for applying pressure fast (like a plastic mallet.)
You might be surprised how easy it can be to gain entry through the door when lock bumping is used. You can train to be a lock bumping expert in just a few minutes –even if you don’t comprehend the way the technique works, you can still use it anyway.

Air Conditioner Cages – Protect your Air Conditioner from theft.
08/26/2008
In hot climates, air conditioning is the one thing people cannot live without. The air conditioning breaking down is something of a disaster, and calls for the services of an air conditioning engineer. Imagine the surprise when they inform you that the air conditioner is not working because thieves have stolen the copper and steel parts from the unit in order to sell them on as scrap. This is bad news as the air conditioning unit will need to be replaced, and this costs a lot of money. This could have been avoided by housing the unit in some sort of protective cover.

Air conditioners are a popular target of thieves, especially in the United States. The units house large amounts of steel and copper, and thieves make a lot of money selling these as scrap. Air conditioner units provide a good source of income for thieves, and the solutions lies in air conditioner cages. These are sold by air conditioning companies and prevent air conditioners from being stolen or vandalized.

Sentry Safes – Keeping Your Home Safe
08/11/2008
Many American homes contain firearms used for sporting and self-defense. It is understandable that citizens want to have some means of protection for themselves and their families, when there are many criminals who possess guns. However, owning guns without securing them can be even more dangerous than any criminal. Unfortunately, there is plenty of statistical proof that unsecured weapons in homes and businesses can be lethal. Curious children, unwanted intruders, and other unauthorized visitors need to be kept away from firearms. That is why responsible gun owners should have a strong, reliable gun safe.

Other methods of firearm storage such as gun cabinets or gun racks are available, but not only do these methods provide less security than a gun safe, they also fail to hide the weapons from prying eyes. Guns that are clearly visible make a tempting target for any burglar. Furthermore, laws in many states require that deadly weapons be stored securely.

Don’t Panic When You Get Locked Out
07/28/2008
Many people immediately panic when they get locked out, and with good reason. Getting locked out can be very frightening to those who stand to lose something when they get locked out – some might lose their sense of security, while others simply worry about the host of bad situations that could arise from being locked out by a locked door.
One way a locked door could get you locked out is if you have someone watch over your child for you as you go on an errand. The nanny and the child could, for some reason, want to go out too (maybe to play, or maybe to talk outside to a neighbor.) Whatever the reason, they get locked out because they left the door key inside the house and a blast of wind slams the door shut on them – hence, all three of you are locked out and with no way to open that locked door.
